Buy a business book – StartupSmart

This article first appeared on September 28th, 2010.

You won’t be surprised to learn that the Taskmaster is a lover of fine literature. Dan Brown, Bridget Jones, Mills & Boon – I’ve read all the great authors.

But there is nothing I like more than sitting down with a great business book. Like most entrepreneurs, I love trying to learn about new ways of managing, or new ideas about strategy, or the latest thinking on technology changes.

However, one problem is that many of the best business books are published and sold in the United States, making them slightly difficult to get and often expensive when shopping in Australia.

But that’s not a problem right now. With the Australian dollar soaring, there’s never been a better time to jump online, choose a title and pick it up for a steal.

A bit of research tells me that the best-selling business title in the US right now is a book called StrengthsFinder 2.0 by Tom Rath, which helps you assess your strengths and weaknesses.

But it’s also worth noting that one of the great business titles of all time, Jim Collins’ Good to Great, remains high on the Wall Street Journal’s best-seller list. If you want a business read to start your library, this is perfect.
