Cycle itineraries set wheels in motion
The paperback is the offspring of a series of seasonal maps that Hurst has published about whimsical city cycle itineraries, suggesting there is a demand for city guides of a quirkier nature.
Hurst identifies five situations where it’s better to travel by bike in Melbourne, including when it’s cold, when you’re tired or tipsy, when you’re going to an AFL match and when you’re off to the races.
Restaurateurs, film location managers and cycle couriers have also contributed to his book.
“The routes are about architecture, design, and drinking and food. It’s a day out in Melbourne – using the book as the best way to make a day in Melbourne effortless and casual,” Hurst says.
You could draw inspiration from Hurst’s ideas and publish your own guide, peppered with personal anecdotes and suggestions for out-of-towners.
