Old MacDonald had a farmers’ market

Business idea: travelling farmer's marketsFarmers’ markets have become extremely popular in Australian rural communities and have begun to spread to the nation’s cities.

It’s an increasingly familiar sight to see families trek to farmers’ markets for their fresh produce each weekend, rather than head to the supermarket.

The problem is distribution. If you have a car or live within spitting distance of a farmers’ market, you’re fine. But the sector is well overdue for a more portable option for office workers and those in distant suburbs.

In the US, delivery of produce by bicycle has become popular while another concept is ‘pop-up’ farmers’ markets that travel to normally overlooked areas.

Why should farmers’ markets be confined to one location? An innovative business could find plenty of un-tapped areas and take advantage.
