Skype and Facebook tech trickBusinesses looking to harness the power of social media will be pleased to learn that Skype and Facebook have banded together, allowing Skype users to chat with their friends on Facebook.

Download Skype 5.0 for Windows, which includes a Facebook tab, and incorporate Facebook's news feed and phonebook into Skype.

Skype users can call Facebook friends directly on mobile or landline phones, sends text messages or make free Skype-to-Skype calls to Facebook friends who are also Skype users.

In addition to posting status updates on Facebook that can be synchronised with Skype "mood"
messages, users can comment on Facebook friends' updates and wall posts.

Skype also recently added a new group video-calling feature and "automatic call recovery", which helps reconnect calls that are interrupted due to internet connection problems.

According to the company, video calling accounted for around 40% of all Skype-to-Skype minutes in the first half of the year.
