THE NEWS WRAP: Intel revs up its auto offerings – StartupSmart

Intel has unveiled its technology for autonomous cars.

 

The chip maker will provide an application-ready platform with its own processors and operating system.

 

It’s part of Intel’s larger campaign to provide the intelligence and connectivity for the Internet of Things.

 

The effort will include Intel’s own research as well as investments in other companies from a $100 million car technology fund.

 

GE integrates iBeacons in new LED lighting fixtures


Prior to this development most retailers had been employing Apple’s iBeacon technology by purchasing small standalone Bluetooth beacons or using iPad terminals that act as beacons.

 

Now GE has introduced its LED light fixture that packs in a combo Bluetooth LE/Visual light communication chip for iBeacon functionality.

 

Two executives leave Foursquare


Foursquare chief operating officer Evan Cohen is leaving the company having spent four-and-a-half years there.

 

Also leaving is long-time business development head Holger Luedorf.

 

Foursquare plans to appoint former Matrix Partners entrepreneur Jeffrey Glueck as COO and promote Mike Harkey to the position of business development head.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average is up 65.56 to 16,698.74. The Australian dollar is trading at US93 cents.
