University of NSW’s Startup Games program open for applications – StartupSmart

Applications for the University of New South Wales’s New South Innovations Startup Games have opened, seeking students keen to learn entrepreneurship.

The program, facilitated by entrepreneur Bart Jellema, involves six full-day workshops covering topics including start-up equity, legal, pitching, business plans, outsourcing, financials and sales.

Josh Flannery, student entrepreneur development manager, told StartupSmart the program was a feeder into New South Innovations’ broader programs.

He says applicants don’t need to come with ready-made business ideas. The program will aim to match applicants with others to form teams to develop a start-up and prepare them to pitch to investors.

Flannery adds that aside from the attraction of running your own business, being part of the program could also improve students’ job prospects when they graduate.

“They may or may not go on to be an entrepreneur but when they’re standing in a queue of a job at a corporate they’ve got this experience others may not have.”

The program, sponsored by Google, Elance, ATPi, and Castaway Forecasting, is limited to 20 people with applications closing on March 6 and the program starting on March 8.

Last year’s Games produced several companies including Conscious Step, Meetisan.com and Forcite Helmet Systems.
