People can now buy items related to the TV shows they are watching on eBay’s new iPad app.

Users can enter the network provider and channel to find items that are related to the TV show, actors, guests or sports teams they are watching.

“We’ve seen that guys sitting around watching a sporting event will buy jerseys for the team they like,” eBay vice president Steve Yankovich says.

Yankovich describes it as a new form of entertainment, combining TV and shopping. Does this present a new opportunity for retailers to develop offerings around certain TV programs?

The likes of Mad Men and Sex and the City have inspired entire fashion trends, so surely there are opportunities to leverage the popularity of other shows on TV.
