Soneva Kiri Eco Resort – Treetop Dining Pod: Start-up Idea
Thai restaurant soars to new heights
By Michelle Hammond
In a new restaurant, diners are seated in pods that look like bird’s nests, which are nestled in trees, while waiters on zip-lines swing from tree to tree.
The pods, which are five metres high, give diners an eagle-eyed view of rainforest at the Soneva Kiri Eco Resort on the island of Koh Kood in Thailand.
Each two-seater pod has a landing strip for waiting staff, and diners are hoisted up by a winch. At $431 for a meal for two, it’s not cheap. But it’s an experience like no other.
Given the challenges faced by Australian tourism operators, perhaps this concept could be embraced here. Imagine how popular a treetop restaurant would be in a Queensland rainforest.
If you’re looking for the next big thing in restaurant trends, this is worth considering.
