Event Details

This class is designed for business leaders who want to learn about financial modeling. No accounting background is necessary, but a basic working knowledge of Excel is required. We'll start by discussing the purpose of a financial model. How to architect and build an effective model that tells the “story” of a business and how to identify its key drivers.

This course will help you to understand the basic anatomy of a model and you will learn how to create one that is helpful in fund-raising activities and business planning. The majority of the session will be dedicated to creating a practical example from end to end. We will examine a simple business and learn how to craft its story, identify its business levers, and create simple funding requirements projections.

Darren Miller is the founder and CEO of Sumwise, a new kind of online spreadsheet that bridges the gap between traditional spreadsheets and custom apps. Prior to starting Sumwise, Darren spent 7 years managing investments and strategy at Consolidated Press Holdings and Publishing and Broadcasting Limited -- the Packer family's private investment company and public media company, respectively. Darren started his career in the early 1990's in Ernst & Young's corporate finance division in Sydney. Darren completed a Bachelor of Commerce with first class honors in accounting from UNSW, and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
