THE NEWS WRAP: Netflix announces enormous growth

Netflix shares have risen 10% after the company announced second-quarter results, with revenue of $1.64 billion and 3.3 million new subscribers, including 2.4 million newcomers internationally.


As TechCrunch reports, the results are better than expected for the company, which now has more than 65 million customers worldwide, and its growth has nearly doubled on last year.

Google introduces buy buttons on mobile ads

Google has unveiled ‘Purchases on Google’, allowing users to buy products directly from promoted search engine results.


As Business Insider reports, users on a mobile device will now be able to see a “buy” button on some promoted search results, which will redirect to a page where they can purchase the product.


At an event in New York yesterday, Google said it will be testing this new feature with a “dozen or so” partners in the coming weeks.

Apple getting sued over iWatch, doesn’t even have a product called that

A small Irish company that holds a trademark over the iWatch in Europe is suing Apple over its use of the name, despite the tech giant not actually having a product called that.


According to Bloomberg, it’s all because Apple is paying Google for its advertisements to appear on the search engine when someone googles “iWatch”, a commonly mistaken name for its Apple Watch.


A software development studio called Probendi filed the procedure with a court in Milan at the end of last month


The Dow Jones Industrial Average is down 3.41, falling 0.02% overnight to 18,050.17. The Australian dollar is currently trading at US74 cents.
