{"id":31992,"date":"2023-10-20T14:26:36","date_gmt":"2023-10-20T14:26:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/startupsmart.test\/2023\/10\/20\/slush-funds-caremonkey-wins-nearly-1m-pitching-prize-in-helsinki-startupsmart\/"},"modified":"2023-10-20T14:26:36","modified_gmt":"2023-10-20T14:26:36","slug":"slush-funds-caremonkey-wins-nearly-1m-pitching-prize-in-helsinki-startupsmart","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.startupsmart.com.au\/uncategorized\/slush-funds-caremonkey-wins-nearly-1m-pitching-prize-in-helsinki-startupsmart\/","title":{"rendered":"Slush funds: CareMonkey wins nearly $1m pitching prize in Helsinki &#8211; StartupSmart"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"445\" height=\"350\" itemprop=\"image\" class=\"entry-thumb\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/l_caremonkey.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"l_caremonkey\"\/><\/div>\n<p>Melbourne-based startup <a href=\"https:\/\/www.caremonkey.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CareMonkey<\/a> now has 650,000 reasons to be smiling.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"growth\/how-caremonkey-emerged-from-a-moment-of-parental-panic-startups-are-scary-series\/2014033012001.html\">The medical information company<\/a> won first place in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slush.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Slush tech conference<\/a> pitching competition in Helsinki, beating out thousands of other applicants to bring home a cheque for 650,000 euros (nearly $1 million).<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>CareMonkey impressed the judges with its system of managing sensitive personal and medical stored information by schools, clubs and groups with a duty of care.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s very exciting news for the entire team, CareMonkey marketing and office administrator Anelia Heese says.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s been high fives all around,\u201d Heese tells <i>StartupSmart.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><br \/><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i> <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>\u201c<\/i>We woke up to the news this morning and we were so excited.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>CareMonkey co-founder Martin Howell praised business partner Troy Westley, who delivered the successful pitch.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Howell says the prize money means his company can expand beyond Australia.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can take this into the US. That\u2019s where we see the big market with clubs and schools open to new technologies,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Heese says the team were also hoping to use Slush as an opportunity to develop partnerships in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The more groups using CareMonkey the safer the world becomes, says Howell.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know it sounds corny, but it\u2019s true,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe get stories every day where a child\u2019s been injured and the paramedics say [about CareMonkey], \u2018oh my god, this is fantastic\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Just this week, the team heard how one school was able to speedily administer care to an injured student.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause they had CareMonkey, the teacher was able to ring the ambulance and parent straight away,\u201d Howell says.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe parent was even able to ride in the ambulance alongside their child.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not the first time CareMonkey has been recognised on the global stage, with Westley also <a href=\"growth\/growth-strategy\/talent-unleashed-winner-troy-westley-on-way-to-bransons-island\/2015091415504.html\">recently taking out the top prize<\/a> at the Talent Unleashed Awards and winning a trip to Richard Branson\u2019s private island.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The startup also took at Best Startup Idea at last year\u2019s StartupSmart awards, and has been growing rapidly this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><i>Do you know more on this story or have a tip of your own?
