Foodtech is the flavour of the month.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Fishburners hosted Australia\u2019s first food hackathon<\/a> earlier this month and now Slingshot is moving into the kitchen, partnering with supplier Simplot to launch a new accelerator for startups keen on breaking into the food industry.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Applications are now open for the three-month Simplot Ignite program<\/a> which comes with $30,000 investment and a 12-week mentoring program in exchange for 10% of the startup\u2019s equity.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

While food might not be an obvious choice for digital innovation, it\u2019s a market \u201cripe for disruption\u201d, Slingshot co-founder Craig Lambert says.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe low-hanging fruit is fintech, recruitment and those types of industries,\u201d he tells StartupSmart<\/i>.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cBut foodtech impacts every person, every day.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

He says he\u2019s excited to hear from startups who are rethinking food growth, distribution, packaging and consumption.<\/p>\n

In addition, Simplot \u2013 the company behind brands like Leggo\u2019s, Birdseye and Lean Cuisine \u2013 have provided five main themes which they want to see developed:<\/p>\n
