{"id":33627,"date":"2023-10-20T14:31:24","date_gmt":"2023-10-20T14:31:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/startupsmart.test\/2023\/10\/20\/why-mark-zuckerberg-is-giving-away-nearly-61-billion-startupsmart\/"},"modified":"2023-10-20T14:31:24","modified_gmt":"2023-10-20T14:31:24","slug":"why-mark-zuckerberg-is-giving-away-nearly-61-billion-startupsmart","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.startupsmart.com.au\/uncategorized\/why-mark-zuckerberg-is-giving-away-nearly-61-billion-startupsmart\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Mark Zuckerberg is giving away nearly $61 billion &#8211; StartupSmart"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"445\" height=\"323\" itemprop=\"image\" class=\"entry-thumb\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/l_zuckerberg-baby600_edited-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"l_zuckerberg-baby600_edited-1\"\/><\/div>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has revealed he will give 99% of his  shares to charity to help create a better world for his daughter, who  was born last week.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/notes\/mark-zuckerberg\/a-letter-to-our-daughter\/10153375081581634?pnref=story\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook post<\/a> announcing the birth of his daughter, Max, Zuckerberg said he and his  wife will give away the vast majority of their wealth in order to  \u201cpromote equality for all children in the next generation\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Zuckerberg\u2019s Facebook shares are currently worth about $61 billion ($US45 billion).<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur initial areas of focus will be personalised learning, curing  disease, connecting people and building strong communities,\u201d Zuckerberg  said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know this is a small contribution compared to all the resources  and talents of those already working on these issues.
