{"id":37591,"date":"2023-10-20T14:51:03","date_gmt":"2023-10-20T14:51:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/startupsmart.test\/2023\/10\/20\/australian-start-up-takes-on-paypal-with-on-site-payment-feature-startupsmart\/"},"modified":"2023-10-20T14:51:03","modified_gmt":"2023-10-20T14:51:03","slug":"australian-start-up-takes-on-paypal-with-on-site-payment-feature-startupsmart","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.startupsmart.com.au\/uncategorized\/australian-start-up-takes-on-paypal-with-on-site-payment-feature-startupsmart\/","title":{"rendered":"Australian start-up takes on PayPal with on-site payment feature &#8211; StartupSmart"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"445\" height=\"352\" itemprop=\"image\" class=\"entry-thumb\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/l_sellz-445.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"l_sellz-445\"\/><\/div>\n<p>Australian online payment start-up Selz has dissatisfied PayPal customers firmly in its sights, growing by over a thousand users a week since launching in May.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Selz allows bloggers and entrepreneurs to sell through their own site without needing to leave the site, log into an account or create a merchant account.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Geoff Austin, marketing and acquisition manager at Selz, told <i>StartupSmart <\/i>the idea emerged directly from the challenge of merchant accounts.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur founder, Martin Rushe, was working with some clients and it came from their frustrations that it was quite straightforward to create a website, but getting an actual merchant account was a real problem because of the paperwork, but also the delays,\u201d Austin says.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Transactions are processed through Selz\u2019s merchant account and the funds are then passed on to the seller.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Selz users so far are mostly in Australia, the US, the United Kingdom and Canada.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Austin says they\u2019re primarily focused on bloggers and non-technical entrepreneurs. He adds they\u2019re competing with PayPal in particular.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019ve got different versions of their offering, but we\u2019ve got a lot more features. We know from our users that the ability to sell without the customer having to leave the site is very attractive,\u201d Austin says.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Austin adds innovation and increasing competition in the payment system space was good news for start-ups.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is a lot of competition in the payment space.
