{"id":41144,"date":"2023-10-20T15:11:56","date_gmt":"2023-10-20T15:11:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/startupsmart.test\/2023\/10\/20\/video-how-agtech-is-transforming-australias-multibillion-dollar-food-production-sector-startupsmart\/"},"modified":"2023-10-20T15:11:56","modified_gmt":"2023-10-20T15:11:56","slug":"video-how-agtech-is-transforming-australias-multibillion-dollar-food-production-sector-startupsmart","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.startupsmart.com.au\/uncategorized\/video-how-agtech-is-transforming-australias-multibillion-dollar-food-production-sector-startupsmart\/","title":{"rendered":"Video: How agtech\u00a0is transforming\u00a0Australia&#8217;s multibillion-dollar food production sector &#8211; StartupSmart"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\">\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"332\" itemprop=\"image\" class=\"entry-thumb\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Lynton-Greenwood-640x332.png\" alt=\"\" title=\"Lynton Greenwood\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Head of Greenwood Orchards Lynton Greenwood<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>From collecting data on harmful fruit flies to help a whole community of agribusinesses, to replacing dated paper systems with online platforms, agtech is making a notable impact on regional Australia.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics, agricultural production in Australia will hit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.agriculture.gov.au\/abares\/news\/media-releases\/2017\/aus-farm-production-forecast-record\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">$63 billion this financial year<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Agricultural technology, or agtech, is expected to drive this into a $100 billion industry by 2030, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/home.kpmg.com\/content\/dam\/kpmg\/au\/pdf\/2016\/powering-growth-realising-potential-agtech-australia.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Powering Growth<\/em><\/a>, a 2016 report commissioned by StartupAus.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.startupsmart.com.au\/advice\/growth\/innovation\/australias-first-national-agtech-innovation-hub-launches-with-a-10-million-startup-fund\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Read more: Australia\u2019s first national agtech innovation hub launches with a $10 million startup fund<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>But what challenges are farmers and agricultural businesses owners facing today and what kind of impact is agtech having on their lives?<\/p>\n<p>On an agtech tour hosted by Microsoft, <em>StartupSmart <\/em>visited business owners and farmers in Victoria&#8217;s north who are adopting new technologies to increase production efficiencies and tackle day-to-day challenges.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If mother nature is really kind to you, you&#8217;ll use less water, you&#8217;ll use less power,&#8221; Campaspe Shire Mayor Leigh Wilson tells <em>StartupSmart.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Technology plays an important role because the farmers that can tap into their climatic conditions, understand where the soil conditions are at and then follow the growth of their crops.
