{"id":41371,"date":"2023-10-20T15:13:29","date_gmt":"2023-10-20T15:13:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/startupsmart.test\/2023\/10\/20\/spotify-says-sorry-over-privacy-confusion-startupsmart\/"},"modified":"2023-10-20T15:13:29","modified_gmt":"2023-10-20T15:13:29","slug":"spotify-says-sorry-over-privacy-confusion-startupsmart","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.startupsmart.com.au\/uncategorized\/spotify-says-sorry-over-privacy-confusion-startupsmart\/","title":{"rendered":"Spotify says sorry over privacy \u2018confusion\u2019 &#8211; StartupSmart"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"445\" height=\"352\" itemprop=\"image\" class=\"entry-thumb\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/l_spotifydanielek_445.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"l_spotifydanielek_445\"><\/div>\n<p>In a blog post titled \u201cSORRY.\u201d Spotify CEO Daniel Ek has addressed the \u201cconfusion\u201d caused by last week\u2019s new privacy policy and clarified what data the music streaming app will and won\u2019t access.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Spotify <a href=\"technology\/privacy-concerns-spotify-to-specify-a-lot-a-more-about-its-users\/2015082015354.html\">updated its privacy policy in the UK on Friday<\/a>, saying users would have their location, sensors, voice and photos accessed by the app, which could then be passed on to its partners.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But Ek says none of this will happen without a user\u2019s \u201cexpression permission\u201d, and all information shared with advertising partners will be \u201cde-identified\u201d to avoid disclosing personal information.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe should have done a better job in communicating what these policies mean and how any information you choose to share will \u2013 and will not \u2013 be used,\u201d Ek says.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe understand people\u2019s concerns about their personal information and are 100% committed to protecting our users\u2019 privacy and ensuring that you have control over the information you share.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He went on to outline how Spotify would use each of the new bits of data it could potentially be accessing.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Photos will be for personalised cover art and profile pictures, locations will be for personalised recommendations, voice is for hands-free functions and contacts will be used to find friends on the app.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><i><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Raising your<\/i> <a href=\"startupschool\/events\/hacking-your-first-investment-round\/\"><i>first round of capital<\/i><\/a><i>?
