{"id":41616,"date":"2023-10-20T15:15:15","date_gmt":"2023-10-20T15:15:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/startupsmart.test\/2023\/10\/20\/sesame-street-launches-its-own-venture-capital-fund-to-invest-in-children-focused-startups-startupsmart\/"},"modified":"2023-10-20T15:15:15","modified_gmt":"2023-10-20T15:15:15","slug":"sesame-street-launches-its-own-venture-capital-fund-to-invest-in-children-focused-startups-startupsmart","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.startupsmart.com.au\/uncategorized\/sesame-street-launches-its-own-venture-capital-fund-to-invest-in-children-focused-startups-startupsmart\/","title":{"rendered":"Sesame Street launches its own venture capital fund to invest in children-focused startups &#8211; StartupSmart"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"445\" height=\"318\" itemprop=\"image\" class=\"entry-thumb\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/l_sesamestreet.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"l_sesamestreet\"><\/div>\n<p>Today\u2019s episode is brought to you by the letters \u2018V\u2019 and \u2018C\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Kids TV show <i>Sesame Street<\/i> has launched its own venture capital branch to invest in startups focusing on children\u2019s education, development, health and nutrition.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Sesame Workshop, the not-for-profit behind the TV show, will be working in partnership with Craig Shapiro\u2019s Collaborative Fund.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The VC fund will be managing the capital, while <i>Sesame Street<\/i> will be actively involved in selecting the companies to invest in, according to a post on the Collaborative Fund\u2019s site.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf something is endorsed by <i>Sesame<\/i> it brings tremendous legitimacy,\u201d Shapiro told <i>Tech Crunch<\/i><i>.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><br \/><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><\/i><\/p>\n<p>\u201cS<i>esame<\/i> is the gold standard for anointing that something is safe for children. If you\u2019re launching a toy or an app or a product or a service for kids, and you have the opportunity to bring <i>Sesame<\/i> and its brand into the fold, it gives it infinitely greater legitimacy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Collab+Sesame fund will be focusing on early-stage ventures and will be investing up to $US1 million in each startup.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The fund will be backing startups that are doing something different for the social good, Shapiro says.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are so many funds that are saying, \u2018oh, VR is the next hot thing, or drones, let\u2019s create a fund just focused on drones\u2019,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just think there are a lot of investors chasing those hot areas.
