{"id":54703,"date":"2023-10-20T16:28:34","date_gmt":"2023-10-20T16:28:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/startupsmart.test\/2023\/10\/20\/the-news-wrap-apple-music-has-11-million-users-doesnt-really-mean-anything-startupsmart\/"},"modified":"2023-10-20T16:28:34","modified_gmt":"2023-10-20T16:28:34","slug":"the-news-wrap-apple-music-has-11-million-users-doesnt-really-mean-anything-startupsmart","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.startupsmart.com.au\/uncategorized\/the-news-wrap-apple-music-has-11-million-users-doesnt-really-mean-anything-startupsmart\/","title":{"rendered":"THE NEWS WRAP: Apple Music has 11 million users, doesn\u2019t really mean anything &#8211; StartupSmart"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"445\" height=\"352\" itemprop=\"image\" class=\"entry-thumb\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/l_newswrap_445.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"l_newswrap_445\"\/><\/div>\n<p>Apple has gone public for the first time with the stats for its music streaming service, saying it has already amassed 11 million users. <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But Apple Music only launched at the end of June and is offering three-month free trials, so no meaningful figures on paying customers will emerge until September.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Spotify boasts 20 million paying users and 55 million customers using the free version, so that\u2019s what Apple is up against.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re thrilled with the numbers so far,\u201d senior vice-president Eddy Cue <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/tech\/2015\/08\/05\/apple-music-hooks-11-million-trial-members-app-store-has-record-july\/31197721\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told <i>USA Today<\/i><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s just see if they\u2019re still thrilled once the free trials come to an end.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><b>Another startups reclassifies its workers as employees<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b> <\/b><\/p>\n<p>On-demand meal service Sprig has joined a growing number of startups in reclassifying its workers from contractors to employees.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/recode.net\/2015\/08\/06\/another-one-bites-the-bullet-sprig-switches-to-employee-model\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">As <i>Re\/Code<\/i> reports<\/a>, Sprig delivery people will now gain access to all the benefits of being proper employees, including expenses, vacation time and healthcare.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It comes as fellow startups Instacart and Shyp have also recently made the switch, while giants Uber and Lyft are currently embroiled in lawsuits over their classification of drivers as contractors.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><b>Zynga beats financial predictions but sheds users<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b> <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Online game startup, and the reason for all those annoying FarmVille invitations, Zynga has beaten predictions for the second quarter, but continues to lose users at a rapid rate.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The company announced revenue of US$200 million, up 30% year-on-year, <a href=\"http:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2015\/08\/06\/zynga-beats-expectations-in-q2-with-200m-in-revenue-fails-to-stem-user-exodus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>TechCrunch<\/i> reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But the starutp\u2019s user base is still in decline, dropping 23% year-on-year to 21 million.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It illustrates just how tricky the app and online gaming realms are now, with so much relying on that one fickle viral hit.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><b>Overnight<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b> <\/b><\/p>\n<p>The Dow Jones Industrial Average is down 120.72, falling 0.69% overnight to 17,419.75.
